Is Surgery Always Necessary?

Many problems of the genitourinary tract can be successfully treated without surgery. However, if your infant or child has a congenital abnormality or an acquired disorder that does require surgical intervention, Dr. Brodherson and Larish  are  experienced in pediatric urologic surgical procedures. These procedures may include both inpatient and outpatient surgeries, and Dr. Brodherson and Larish use minimally invasive techniques in his practice to reduce risk and recovery time for children and infants with urologic problems requiring surgical correction.  Laparoscopic techniques, robotic surgery, and endourologic procedures are all used to correct pediatric genitourinary problems.

What Type of Anesthesia Is Available for Infants and Children:

Urologist for ChildrenDr. Brodherson and Larish , top New York City urologists, will advise you, in consultation with an anesthesiology doctor, about the best option for anesthesia to block pain during your child’s surgery. General anesthesia allows your child to sleep during surgery, and makes surgery easier and safer. Caudal anesthesia is anesthesia that numbs the pain in the low back, abdomen, and trunk, and it is given with general anesthesia so that the anesthesia doctor can use smaller amounts of the medicine to put your child asleep during surgery. Caudal anesthesia continues to work to stop pain from the surgical procedure for several hours after surgery is complete.
